The Circulator Boot™ is a proven device for helping
to heal diabetic ulcers and reducing amputations.
The Circulator Boot System™ is a compression boot that
fits over the leg. It may be the best alternative to amputation
and is an exceptional device for helping to heal diabetic
ulcers.
The Boot increases circulation by providing a pumping action
coordinated by the rhythmic action of the patient's own heart.
This is not a lymphedema pump. The leg is enclosed in a fiberglass
shell lined with an inflatable plastic bag that can be filled
with special wound healing solutions, including antibiotics,
and topped with a regulator which is attached to a heart monitor.
Between heart beats, air pulses through the bag and compresses
the leg. Oxygenated arterial blood is drawn in and venous
blood is expelled. The cycle is repeated depending on the
patient's own heart rate (usually 60 to 100 times a minute).
Antibiotics can be injected into the wound prior to treatment
so that the medication circulates more effectively.
We are now successfully treating wounds and arterial and
venous insufficiencies that were not responding to conventional
treatment.
The Circulator Boot™ has successfully treated poor circulation
non-surgically in the feet and legs with a dramatic increase
in blood flow.
In a 15 year national study involving 1,035 patients and
2,177 treatments, 8 out of 10 patients showed healing or improvements
in their diabetic wounds and circulatory problems in the lower
extremities with the use of the Circulator Boot™.
The Circulator Boot™ is FDA approved for increasing arterial
blood flow. The Diabetic Foot Wound Center is currently the
only center in North Florida using this equipment. There are
32 centers at this time in the U.S. using the Circulator Boot™.
